Experienced Bell County, Texas, Attorney

Philippians 4:13

At the law offices of W. David Scales, in Belton, we handle a broad range of legal issues for clients throughout central Texas. We know that the legal process can be intimidating and that contacting a lawyer can take a leap of faith. When you come to our offices, you'll get compassion and understanding, and a commitment to work hard to help you reach your goals.

Juvenile Law and Criminal Defense

We work closely with juveniles who have been charged with a wide variety of crimes, including:

  • Assault
  • Criminal trespass
  • Drug offenses, usually involving marijuana, cocaine and amphetamines
  • Evading arrest

With many of the juvenile offenders that we represent, whether we are appointed by the court to represent them or their parents have retained us, our relationship does not end when the case is over. We make ourselves available to the juveniles 24 hours a day, seven days a week, both during and after their cases.

We also defend adults on most types of felony and misdemeanor charges, including assault, DWI/DUI, unlawful restraint, kidnapping and criminally negligent homicide.

Child Custody Disputes

We do a lot of work in Child Protective Services (CPS) court, representing parents of children who are in CPS custody. We also represent family members (aunts, uncles and grandparents) who fear for the welfare of minor children and seek to have those children placed with them. We have successfully argued for the dismissal of CPS custody actions for clients in Bell County. Attorney Scales has received advanced training in family law mediation and often uses this approach to find amicable solutions to family law and custody disputes.

Employment Law

We represent men and women throughout the area, including federal civilian employees at Fort Hood, in all matters involving unfair treatment on the job, including:

  • Discrimination
  • Sexual harassment, including hostile working environments
  • Whistleblower claims
  • Equal Employment Opportunity cases
  • Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeals

Extensive Experience in Mediation

Our lead attorney, W. David Scales, has extensive experience and training in mediation and has mediated disputes at the state and federal level. He has also been a mediation trainer at both the state and federal level. In 1998, he was awarded the Hammer Award by Vice President Al Gore for his role in developing a mediation program for the Federal Executive Board in Oklahoma City. That same year, he was nominated Mediator of the Year for the state of Oklahoma.

Representation with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles

We represent offenders in parole revocation hearings before hearing officers with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. If you have been placed on parole and have been charged with violation of one of the conditions of your parole, we will fight to protect your rights.

Other Practice Areas

We assist clients with all aspects of wills, trusts, estate planning, probate and estate administration, and will assist in obtaining guardianships. We also handle all matters related to the, construction, sale or purchase of residential and commercial real estate.

When you need compassionate and committed counsel in a criminal law matter, including juvenile cases, a child custody dispute or an employment law matter, contact us for a confidential consultation. Our phones are answered 24 hours a day. Evening and weekend appointments are available upon request and we will set up payment plans for clients with approved credit.
